This is our next stop for the next few days! Our friends Linda & Dick are hanging in there with us! They had been here a few years ago which was very helpful!!
What a town!! One word " COLORFUL"
We spent the day walking and playing Tourists. Went into a couple of pubs and had a brew BUT they don't sell Busch Beer!!! We ate canjun, gumbo, and alligator!!! Taste like Chicken!
Linda said we had to have BEIGNETS!! She was right...Mmmmmm
We took a drive to St. Bernard where Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005
What an eye opener...we went on a stretch of road where houses are still empty with
a hugh red "X" on them...which means that house had been checked for survivors.
At one time beautiful homes and now...no windows, moldy, yards full of overgrown weeds
VERY SAD
Cross in memory of the victims
This is what you see now... Single wide trailers on high stilts
They have lots of stairs and some have elevators
Stopped by this cemetery AND was AMAZED
how many Perez's( my maiden name) were buried there.
This is just a few. I know that my dad told me that when my grandfather came into the states that his brothers continue on towards LA & GA. I'll have to do some homework on that
The JOURNEY continues to Gulf Shores AL
