TALKEETNA, ALASKA

Mt. McKinley the tallest peak in North America at 20,320 ft. The mountains of Alaska Range are so tall that they block clouds, and affect the weather- and the mountain's visibilty. This is the south view of the Denali National Park. Since the first climber tried to summit McKinley in 1903, over 30,000 climbers have made the attempt. Around 1200 are trying each year, about 600 of them succeed.

Hey kids this is our new rig! COOL!!!

Talkeetna: The 10th "COOLEST TOWN IN AMERICA"
We spent a day here BUT we could spent a lifetime here. Just a little town full of Historic log cabins!

This is how they deliver mail in Alaska!

What's on the menu????

Dan wants to buy this airstream and make it into "TACO EXPRESS"

Great food BUT was shock to see real Mexicans in Alaska. I started a conversation with her and found out they are here only in the summer & back to Mexico in the winter!! Smart Mexicans!!!

ALASKA PIPELINE

Trans-Alaska Pipeline carries crude oil from Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean to Valdez, 800 miles of pipeline with the diameter of 48 inches. The pipeline was built between 1974-1977 with the completion date on June 20th 1977. As of 2010, the pipeline has shipped almost 16 billion barrels of oil.

I'm a TALL Mexican!! I think I can reach it!!!!

800 miles long!!!

                               To our Canadian friends!HA!HA!

CLAM DIGGING

Diamond M Ranch (where we're employed at) took us plus other campers clam digging. Here in Alaska you need a fishing license, which Dan has, but I'm going there just to watch!!! Boy am I glad for that BECAUSE it's a DIRTY job!!! As many of my friends know... I don't even like getting my hands dirty!!!

This is a picture where I'm standing down by the water looking up to the shoreline when it's high tide. Those white specks by the cliff are the vehicles where the shoreline will be in a few hours. Dan said the distance is about 1/2 mile. The mud in between is heavy and very hard to walk through!

As far as you can see are clam diggers...hundreds of them!!

This guy looks like he's been doing it for awhile

Okay time to start digging and digging!!!! First you have to look for small bubble holes in this mud....clams are blowing out air...then you start digging parallel with the ocean. WHY? Because thats how they're facing! There's alot to this!!! Most of the time you're digging in this heavy mud at least a foot deep

You can see this is a DIRTY task. Deeper Dan deeper!!

                                                                  FINALLY!!!

This is WORK!!!

                                                   Enough pictures of the clamming.
As I was scanning the shore I spotted these eagles.
I tried getting closer but they were watching me.
                                                        They were probably thinking
" Who's that Hot Mexican Chick on the beach?"

Next blog should be Dan's experience on a fishing charter!!! Hopefully there will be fish!!

ROAD TRIP TO HOMER AK

One place everyone who has been in Alaska told us we must  go to Homer. The drive alone Cook Inlet was AWESOME!!! Our first stopped was Anchor Point "America's Most Westerly Highway Point". We drove down this road and ended at the boat launch.
What a surprise to see how they take out & put in the boats because of the tides. Take a look!

Tractor goes out and then the fishing boat trailers up. When the tide is down the shore becomes heavy mud. Many people have drown because they get stuck and the tide comes up and can't escape.

                                                               Time to get out!!

                                                                         Next !!!

Boat is ready to go fishing!!!

AMAZING!!! Our view while we were watching the boats

We continued on to Homer

And we came upon this hill overseeing Homer Spit...
WOW!!
It's a long narrow of land jutting 4.5 miles into Kachemak Bay

Kenai Mountain

Salty Dawg Saloon
Alaska's best known frontier bars and Dan is waiting on me to go have a cold one!

Inside you find dollar bills stapled to the walls & ceiling.
I think Dan is trying to pick up this chick!!!

The city's picturesque boardwalk dates back to the 1930's, lots of shops & restaurants

Marina full of boats AND the season hadn't started yet

One Day............ SOON!!!

Eat your heart out Tom Hunt
